Arabiste

The Evolution of Middle Eastern Art

For this school project, I was asked to create a full branding concept from scratch, but unlike many of my classmates who designed existing products, I wanted to create something completely original. That’s how Arabiste was born: a fusion of traditional Middle Eastern geometric art with neon lights and phosphorescent materials. My goal was to take intricate, timeless patterns and reimagine them as modern, luminous pieces that come alive through movement, especially rotational motion.

This blend of heritage, light, and motion forms the foundation of a new art style—innovative yet honoring the elegance of Middle Eastern design. By taking this unconventional approach, I aimed to set my work apart, creating a brand and art form that didn’t exist before.

Every brand has its own way of presenting products, and Arabiste is no different. What makes it special is that it honors both the product and its packaging, ensuring safe delivery while staying true to its values. Since Arabiste aims to be as eco-friendly as possible—reflecting the heritage of stone-carved art—it uses the most sustainable yet effective materials.

This commitment is reinforced through an eco-friendly symbol on the packaging and minimal use of ink, maintaining both the brand’s elegance and its refined aesthetic.

For the brand’s contact materials, I designed a complete stationery set aimed at capturing attention while reflecting Arabiste’s unique artistic identity.

I began with the business card, giving one side a strong visual impact by featuring the logo icon alongside a brief description: “Cyber Traditional Islamic Art.” This phrase highlights the Islamic influences behind its geometric style and ensures that anyone who encounters the card is intrigued and motivated to learn more about Arabiste.

For the envelope, I created a distinctive and engaging experience. The opening flap displays the Arabiste icon in black, and once the envelope is opened, the shape continues seamlessly in white against a black background—creating a satisfying visual reveal. The front of the envelope remains elegant and minimal, allowing any recipient to immediately sense refinement, thoughtful design, and artistic value.
As for the letterhead, I kept the layout intentionally minimal. The purpose is to support the written message without distracting from it, ensuring the design enhances communication rather than competes with it.

For the design process, I researched both the traditional and modern elements I wanted to merge. I studied art and décor brands to understand their visual strategies, and I explored Middle Eastern motifs, focusing on their geometry, symmetry, and cultural meaning. This helped me create a direction that honored the heritage while giving it a contemporary edge.
Typography was equally important. I chose Athelas for its refined, structured look, and paired it with Avenir for its smooth, minimal style.

Together, they balance bold tradition with modern simplicity. For the color palette, I kept it minimal with only black and white, considering red but ultimately leaving it out. Limiting the colors not only allowed the neon lights and their reflections to stand out, but also gave the brand a sense of respect and elegance. Since neon is most striking against dark tones, this simple palette reinforced the bold visual impact I wanted to achieve.
To complete this branding project, I used Illustrator and InDesign, and I used Blender to create all the 3D animations.
