Catch ME If You Can
Movie Poster
This piece is a movie poster inspired by Leonardo DiCaprio’s Catch Me If You Can. Drawing from the style and theme of the film’s opening title sequence, I created a unique poster that imitates its visual language while adding my own personal touch. I incorporated the signature stretched letterforms—like the elongated t, h, and f—along with the distinct color treatment for the word “me.” This wasn’t a blind imitation; instead, it emphasizes the main character’s uniqueness—how he stands out yet remains difficult to grasp or catch. I also included the nurse, symbolizing his emotional vulnerability, and the detective, who becomes a father figure to the child within him. This is why the child looks toward the detective, while the doctor figure looks toward the nurse.
My goal was to demonstrate my ability to work creatively with black, white, and a single accent color, showing that minimal palettes can still be visually engaging. The poster contains layered visual elements hidden within its design. These include illustrations of different phases of the protagonist’s life: as a pilot, marking the start of his life as a professional deceiver; as a doctor, a role that had a deep emotional impact on him; and as a student, highlighting the cleverness he showed from childhood. When viewed as a whole, the composition reveals the silhouette of a paper airplane formed by the blue light—an homage to airports, air travel, and the playful yet deceptive nature of the character’s schemes. I added a quote from the film that follows the shape of this light, giving a glimpse into the story, alongside the highlighted word “Me.”
The mockups above show how the poster would look in a real environment, demonstrating that it’s not only visually appealing on-screen but also a compelling physical artwork.
